Why This Recipe for Passover Sweet and Sour Sauce Works
Passover is a time to get creative. Just because you can't eat chometz doesn't mean that there are not delicious recipe options. I mean come on, recipes like Passover Chicken Nuggets, Whole Roast Chicken, and Marinated Chuck Eye Roast are super tasty and kosher for Passover. Passover Sweet and Sour sauce is great on those recipes and we love it because it is:
- Easy to make. This sauce recipe uses ingredients that most of us have on hand when it comes time for Passover so it shouldn't require an extra trip to the grocery store.
- Ready in less than 10 minutes. Mix the ingredients for the sauce together, blend, and heat for 5 minutes. You don't even have to let the sauce fully cool before enjoying it.
- Easy to store. Once the sauce cools, spoon it into an airtight container and store for up to 2 months in the refrigerator. If you are preparing for Passover in advance, you can make this Passover sauce and freeze it until you are ready to serve.
- Everyone can enjoy it. Gluten free, pareve, dairy free, nut free and kosher for Passover, there is almost nobody that you can't serve this sauce to.
How to make Passover Sweet and Sour Sauce step by step:
Step 1 - Blend the ingredients
Add the apricot jam, pineapple juice, apple cider vinegar, potato starch and water (known as a slurry), coconut aminos, Passover yellow mustard, salt, and garlic powder into a blender or food processor. If you are using some heat such as red pepper flakes or jalapeno pepper, add them in here as well. Blend for 30 seconds. If you don't mind a thicker sauce, skip this step and go right to Step 2.
Step 2 - Heat
Transfer the sauce to a saucepan over medium heat until the sauce starts to bubble. While the sauce is at a low boil, stir consistently with a whisk. We love these silicone coated whisks for sauces like this since you don't have to worry about scratching the coating of your pan. That's it! Enjoy warm or cold.
