While Taco Bell restaurants are off limits for a strictly kosher diet, their sauces don't have to be with Copycat recipes like this one. Just like our Subway Sweet Onion Sauce clone or our McDonalds Sweet and Sour Sauce (Copycat), this is a copycat recipe which means that it is not exactly their recipe but it is pretty close kosher equivalent.

Ingredients
This creamy jalapeño sauce is so easy to make and takes less than 5 minutes. Here is what you need to make a kosher version of the Creamy Jalapeno Sauce from Taco Bell:
- Mayonnaise - every good sauce needs a base and this is one of the standards for a creamy sauce. Mayo helps to highlight the spices and other flavors nicely.
- Sour cream - rounds out the base of the sauce with a little bit of a creamy tanginess that only sour cream can provide.
- Lemon juice - gives the sauce just a little bit of tartness.
- Jalapeno peppers - during the better part of the year, you can use the pickled jalapenos from the store shelf. I find that these have a very nice flavor that work well in this sauce. If you are making this Copycat Taco Bell Creamy Jalapeno Sauce during Passover, you will need to make your own pickled jalapenos for Passover.
- Chili powder - gives the sauce a depth of flavor with a little bit of a kick. This is one of the milder chili spices you can use so it shouldn't be too spicy.
- Sugar - just a touch of sweetness really adds a different flavor profile that you don't find in other sauces.
- Paprika - for color and depth of flavor.
- Cocoa powder - if there is a secret ingredient in the sauce, this is it. Unsweetened cocoa powder is used to add an earthy umami type flavor to the sauce.
- Minced onion - for texture and flavor.
- Garlic powder - for flavor.
- Salt

How to make this recipe
This recipe is really easy to make and takes less than 5 minutes prep time. The complexity and delicious flavor of the sauce comes in the blend of all of the different spices and ingredients. All you are going to do here is add the ingredients together into a blender and blend until smooth.
We like to use this small blender device that came with our immersion blender for sauces like this one. If you don't have an immersion blender then you can just use a regular blender or food processor.
That's it! Now you can enjoy a homemade kosher quesadilla sauce in under 5 minutes total time. (Chill overnight for best results).
Recipe Pro Tip
Kosher for Passover Taco Bell Sauce Variant
When you make this kosher Taco Bell Creamy Jalapeno Copycat recipe for Passover it will be nearly impossible to find kosher for Passover pickled jalapenos. This means that you will have to make them yourself. Don't worry, it's easy. Cut up a jalapeno into slices and soak in Passover vinegar overnight. Substitute kosher for Passover mayo and these peppers and then follow the recipe as written.
Recipe Variations
We tried to come as close to Taco Bell's recipe for Creamy Jalapeno Sauce as we could with our copycat recipe. Here are some things you could try if you are so inclined:
- Add 1 teaspoon of cumin to the spice blend.
- Substitute cayenne pepper for the paprika to really turn up the heat.
- Use lime juice instead of lemon juice in the recipe.
- For an extra depth of flavor, substitute ranch dressing or spicy ranch for the mayo.
- Make it dairy free and pareve. Leave out the sour cream and just add an extra ¼ cup of mayonnaise to make this recipe pareve and dairy free! Now you can use it as a topping for Slow Cooker Chili.

Special equipment used
Immersion Blender. We have discussed our love of immersion blenders in our soup recipes like the Savory Butternut Squash Soup and Easy Sweet Potato Soup. It should come as no surprise that we use it for recipes like this one. It works so well for blending small amounts of ingredients in a short time. If you don't have one, you can use a regular blender or food processor but you will want to run the sauce through a few times to make sure it is fully blended.
Storage instructions
This copycat sauce recipe will store well in the refrigerator for up to one month. Store it in an airtight container or sauce bottle if you have one. It is not a good idea to freeze this sauce as it will lose a lot of its flavor and texture when it freezes. Better to just make it fresh next time you want to have some.
